Melinda Whitten

Melinda graduated from the Baylor University School of Art with a BA in Visual Arts with post graduate work in printmaking (including Intaglio and Lithography both of which call for a high level of drawing skills.) “I didn’t discover printmaking until my final year of school and it was the perfect foil for my strong drawing skills.”

Through the years Melinda has worked with many mediums, oils, acrylics and watercolors but has returned to her love of ink and paper. “I feel most comfortable with a pen in hand. There is something beautiful and striking about the simplicity of ink on fine rag paper.”

Melinda has since combined her love of traditional pen and ink with the beauty of watercolor and ink washes. “I often start a piece with a wash of watercolor or ink. The colors will bloom and take shape and then I pick up my pen and follow the story blossoming before me. I call this “improv with ink” and I am a partner with the medium.”

Her current pieces are a whimsical reflection of the beauty she sees in the everyday; bees going about their work, hummingbirds flitting between flowers, fathers playing with their children. a devoted dog and his human, the inspiration is limitless.

Look through the original works for sale, or choose a signed print which the artist personally prints on archival, cotton rag paper. And if you have a particular subject or scene in mind that you would like to commission, Melinda would love to work with you on that perfect piece for you or that special someone. As a bonus a time lapse reel/video has been created of each piece and can be view on WhittenArts instagram so that you can it develop from start to finish (no A.I. here!)
